The green station respects the environment and future generations. We are committed to providing energy-efficient infrastructure that helps people live better together. We are convinced that improving our ways of travelling will have a decisive impact on our quality of life.
Construction of the first bioclimatic station
Between now and 2028, we will be building Europe's first bioclimatic station, jointly with the Nice-Aéroport station. This station will produce more energy than it consumes, while being low-carbon and with extensive vegetation planting. Built around a bioclimatic canopy, the station will form an island of coolness open to its neighbourhood.

Zero non-recovered recyclable waste
We are implementing a waste reclamation plan to achieve "zero non-recovered recyclable waste" by 2030. The first step of this plan involves the gradual installation since 2022 of new sorting bins in stations to collect organic waste. These new bins, made from recycled materials, will optimise collection efficiency and simplify upkeep and maintenance while complying with health, safety and security standards.
Developing solar power
We own ample land areas between stations and platforms to deploy solar panels. We have started with the 2030 Solar Plan in order to generate the power that we use. The goal is to source 50% renewable energy by 2035 and 100% by 2050. In parallel, we are reducing our energy needs and power bills, and gradually switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

Eco-design and re-use
We are increasing the proportion of bio-sourced and geo-sourced materials in our projects, and we aim to systematically reuse the waste materials. Our approach is based on the EMC2B systematic operational method for energy, materials, carbon, climate and biodiversity, formalised in 2019. We have accelerated the process since 2023 by devoting 113 million euros between now and 2032 to adaptation measures and launching a vulnerability assessment on all SNCF Gares & Connexions assets and activities.
Fostering intermodality
Stations must be connected to the public transport network of cities and regions. It should be easy to get to and from the station by bike, on foot, by car, by taxi or public transport. Intermodality means seeing the train as a link in a journey that requires several modes of transport. The quality of the transition from one mode of transport to another, in terms of fluidity and accessibility, plays a key role in the train’s appeal for passengers. We accompany passengers throughout their journey, up to the last kilometre.

The Cycle Plan of SNCF Gares & Connexions
Systematic extension of bicycle parking spaces near stations is one of SNCF Gares & Connexions' priorities to develop train/bike intermodality and offer everyone an end-to-end eco-friendly transport solution.
The French Law on Mobility (LOM) and the decree on secured cycle parking in the vicinity of stations set a target of more than 65,000 bike parking spaces in the 1,075 busiest stations by the end of 2024 (in early 2024, nearly half of all stations had already achieved this target).
- In the Île-de-France region: 164 cycle parks (closed, secured and free access) operated by SNCF Gares & Connexions and accessible to cyclists in 110 stations in the Île-de-France region, i.e. 5,418 parking spaces.
- At major stations: By the time of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we will have installed more than 2,600 new bicycle parking spaces, including the creation of a secure bicycle parking facility with 1,186 spaces at Paris Nord and a secure parking facility with 358 spaces at Paris Saint-Lazare.
