“The main qualities required for the role of Building and Electricity Team Manager are being attentive in order to guarantee staff safety, being able to anticipate the tasks that need to be done and having a good understanding of the organisation. I joined SNCF Gares & Connexions in November 2017. Today I lead a team of 14 people, 5 working in ‘energy’ and 9 in ‘building’. Each unit has an operational technician (OT) and their assistants. My work involves organising the projects and schedules, checking that safety in ensured and of course managing teams. This is what takes up most of my time.
I previously worked for Spie in Angers as a Methods Engineer for Public Buildings Maintenance, on the service provider side. Now I am on the client side but with far more supervision responsibilities.
As I am in charge of operators and works supervisors, I coordinate all the building jobs: plumbers, painters, roofers, electricians, etc. My biggest project at the moment is removing asbestos from Le Havre station. But my field of action is very varied, from replacing candelabras on the platforms of Évreux station to changing a boiler, not to mention all the one-off jobs all around the region. I need to be very reactive to respond to all these one-off requests while also managing the long-term maintenance operations. But the variety of the work is precisely what I like about this job. I also really enjoy the human aspect of my work. You need to know how to manage each person individually according to their personality. So it is important to be able to adapt. It’s very rewarding. Although we have a lot of autonomy, we are very well supported with a lot of follow-up and attention. ”
